If you’re driving from Dingle, heading north straight to Galway, the inland Limerick route is fastest and cheapest (roughly €2 in tolls). But if you’re going to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren, the 20-minute Killimer-Tarbert ferry connection allows you to avoid the 80-mile detour around the River Shannon and is more scenic (€20/carload, departs hourly, June-Sept every 30 minutes; generally departs at :30 past the hour going north and on the hour going south—check timetables online; no need to reserve, tel. 065/905-3124, www.shannonferries.com).
